Return to Sport

When an injury has kept you out of sports for a prolonged time, it is important to perform return to sport testing in order to confirm the safety of resuming sporting activities.

What return to sport testing measures:

  • The ability to equalize ground reactions forces between extremities
  • Confidence with complicated movements and speed
  • Endurance between extremities
  • Demonstration of safe biomechanics
  • Soft athletic landings

So how do you know when you are ready?? In order for you to safely return to sport, you must first demonstrate equal strength between extremities, a normal running pattern, no hesitation or compensatory strategies with agility drills, and tolerance for loading. There are various tests to measure this and it is important to rehabilitate until at least 70% of norms prior to initiating a return to sport protocol.
